Round One of the derby tryouts went very well. The team captains & co-captains from all the teams were there to evaluate our skating & give us tips. The sum total of the feedback I received was: "Looking good," "Good crossovers," "You're doing great," "Good Job," & "I can tell you're gonna be mean; I want you on my team!" (Thanks, Crackerjack.)
Went to Maxwell Street Days & looked around at some of the tables. Stopped by the Mad Dolls/Freedom/Knuckleheads table & bought a Mad Dolls T-shirt so I can wear it to the office Monday if I make the team. (I'm optimistic, but realistic: I was probably in the middle/upper middle of the women there. Not gonna count chickens before they hatch, but I'm gonna incubate them all I can!)
Hooked up with Miss Amberella (
lillia_revan) on my second pass by the MD/F/K table. I'd been walking back up State with the intent of catching a bus out to Fast Forward when, on my way past the table I was assaulted by Mouse with a water pistol. So I walked over & did a minor douse with my water bottle. "That's what we like to see!" she said. "I call it 'retaliation'," I told her. About a minute or two later, as I was browsing the Knuckleheads merchandise, Amberella appears by my side. Wheee! So I gave her a squirt with the water bottle. Well, about two minutes after that, I'm seized from behind & turn around to see Nolan & Lauren. Huzzah! Gave each of them an minor squirt as well.
So Amber, Nolan, Lauren & I found a bench in the shade & chatted for a bit. Then Nolan & Lauren were off, and Amber & I meandered a bit more. Just before Amber & I went our separate ways my mom called. Well, I was hanging with Amber, so I told her I'd call back.
Yes, I did call her back. After Amber & I went our separate ways I called to find out what was up. I was mildly concerned because she sounded kind of upset, and sort of like she had some bad news, when she called me. Turns out one of her cats has cancer. This is the last of the Pennsylvania kitties, Maurice. He joined our lovely household one chilly winter day when I was in college at HACC. He'd been hanging around the house & one day when the kitchen door was opened for some of the other (preexisting) cats he came running in with them & went right into my room & hopped up on to the bed. We decided to keep him. He's a very sweet kitty &, as I said, the last of the Pennsylvania herd to have made the trip to the midwest.
Mom's vet gave her some referrals to veterinary oncologists, but she said she wasn't sure she was going to take the kitty in. I told her it didn't make sense to because vet oncology can get expensive. Any oncology, really, now that I mention it. So we will see how the kitty holds up. As long as he's eating & sleeping & using the litter box & he's not in a lot of pain he will be our sweet, gentle, great big Weecey.
OK - now I'm gonna go see if I can't read all the rest of the rules for this game I'm supposed to run tomorrow before, you know, tomorrow. Busy, busy weekend.....
